| RTVNC is a remote desktop utility based on WinVNC from AT&T Research Labratories. RTVNC comes with both a client and a server program. The client program will let you log on to a remote PC running RTVNC or WinVNC, or a UNIX system running XVNC. The server program allows you set up your machine for remote access, which allows a remote machine to log on to your PC and control it.
RTVNC is easy to set up and run. If you want to set up your PC for remote access, all you have to do is start the RTVNC server and set a password for your system. Then the program sits in the system tray and waits for a remote system to try to access it.
If you want to log on to a remote system, all you need to do is input that machine's IP address and the system's password. Once you do, a window opens up that displays exactly what is on the screen on the remote system. It shows all of the open windows on the remote system, along with everything minimized in the task bar and everything in the system tray.
Once you are logged on to a remote system, you can click on windows, open and close programs, and run programs remotely. When we tested RTVNC, we were able to do things like check mail on the remote system and send out ICQ messages using the ICQ that was open on the remote system. It appears that with RTVNC, you should be able to run any program that you want on the remote system just like it was on the machine right in front of you.
