| Watt is an early planning tool for machine designers. It assists in the conceptualization of mechanisms and linkages. In a sense, it is a problem-solving tool.
The CAD designer provides the problem by designating a path that needs to be followed. Watt then generates potential device configurations that fulfill the required movement. Each configuration is displayed in a list on the left-hand side of the window.
Now that the potential design solutions are listed, they can be viewed. A corresponding animation is played out for each configuration. Watching the animation can provide the designer valuable insight into how a mechanism needs to be designed.
